Are shoe soles like the ones found in the nike vaporfly partly designed with machine learning? The sole of the vaporfly seems very arbitrary to me, but the quality/performance of the shoe contradicts this.

My reason for asking this question could just be my lack of domain in industrial/mechanical engineering. I'm hoping /sci/ can help me understand.
