Personally I'm more interested in the "philosophers stone" that is neutrons and the properties of transmutation than I am fusion power. But eitherway they are fun projects. Just remember nuclear reactions are incredibly energy intensive and "going backwards" using electricity to drive atomic reactions is basically like trying to win the indy500 with a bicycle.
I skipped the fusion-plasma stuff and just dove right into particle physics, but it takes all kinds. However, you can buy just about anything on alibaba or from russia (ancapistan), most of the time its not a scam too. So I'd splurge on some Helium-3 if I were you and make a fusor that burns that. Also, you might want to look into the polywell, some people say those are a million times better, and if you're into plasma that's probably a better place to start. Especially over a Tokamak, which like, not to be a dick but billion dollar grant farms can't generate power, you likely wont either.
