The duplication of the cube is one of the three problems of antiquity impossible to solve with rule and square, so this problem was solved using analytical geometry more specifically using the Dioclean cystoid. This makes me think about how random the solution to a problem can be, that is, what was Diocles thinking to find a relationship between the duplication of the cube and such a curve?
