Because of the amount of nitrogen in Betelgeuse's atmosphere it seems that it ate its companion star which means it is far younger than we thought and nowhere near ready to explode. It has anywhere from 100,000-500,000 years to explode. Unless you plan on living another 100,000 years you have 0 chance to see it.
