When I first saw that on my ice, I thought I had witnessed something impossible/physics defying. Then I looked it up and apparently it's a normal things that happens sometimes. The water is forced through a small hole in the ice forming on the surface of the water. As it's forced up it freezes, but the hole isn't closed up still, so it continues to be forced up forming a vertical tube of ice, until finally the whole things is frozen.
