Most energy generation sector companies work as legal monopolies that are at least partly state financied. Thats due to the regulations needed to coordinate electrical grids (that is why it happens with transmission and distribution on smaller or larger scales). Socialized energy sector would not be different from this, except for being crappier.

For most of the history of life humans didn't exist, so what's your point? Also, the warmth is not the problem, it's the high rate of change in temperature that's the problem. If life had many thousands or millions of years to adapt to a new climate, it would be fine. But such changes occurring over a few hundred tend to cause mass extinctions.
