What dogma's have you accepted because simply you would be shamed to think otherwise?

How many of you have feared sharing your original idea (which may be fallacious) because you knew if it was right someone with more power than you what take credit for it?

At the very least, this fear makes discerning quacks easier, because a genius with no reputation would never risk sharing an idea they believed held value. Is this the world you were told you live in?

You probably define true science as something that is empirically proven and not otherwise ill-defined. In this case, humanities has a quite fundamental problem because many if not most of its assumptions, its works etc. are based on (authoritative) claims rather than empirical data.

It depends on the subject but there are clearly defined rules relating to governmental and corporation interests. Where I'm working ideological constraints are less of a problem but Academia makes sure that they get the most out of the little money they offer you.

Professors and in general, people in power positions, will force many of their employees to join their own little "school" which means nothing less that employees must work in accordance with what the leading professor proposes, writes and publishes. You cannot diverge from the professor's line without potentially losing your profession.

As long as you're not in a leading position, no one will really care. You get to work on projects. Once you're employed you more often than not don't even get to decide to work on what projects.

Yes, because this idea will likely be stolen and published under the name of your professor or chef.

Now, I only tell what I myself have experienced. Academia loves employing people who haven't gotten their doctoral degrees yet because they work for considerably less money. They will also employ students in exchange for credits to do menial tasks because as I told you, money is always short. They force students to write their Bachelor or Master theses on things that require them to work for free on stuff that benefits their supervisors and professors. More work in exchange for nothing... Actually, you get your degree but the institution makes sure that they will profit too from you.

Is what I might say if a tad niave. In reality, this calls into question if the reason so many employers have valued the symbol that represents this 'working for cheap,' is for precisely that reason.

Employers and the public stopped respecting degrees for the sole reason that there is a huge inflation going on in terms of how many people get degrees on what terms.
So when I talk of "how many people", I'm talking about the percentage of people who end up with a degree.
This issue is imo considerably worse in the USA than in Europe. Whereas in Europe roughly 10 % of the population attains a degree equal or superior to the Bachelor's degree, it seems to be more than 30 % in the USA. This is closely connected to "on what terms". Because the percentage of people that actually end up with a Bachelor's degree is so high, we deal with a majority of people who should not have these degrees in the first place. This is clearly visible from the fact that over the decades much of what originally constituted education for undergraduates in the USA was replaced by stuff that ought to be taught in high school. People should not be able to pass high school and simultaneously turn out to be unable to perform the most simplistic algebraic manipulations. This hasn't happened in Europe yet despite a lot of simplifications even there going on.

Just because they're different things doesn't mean that there is no connection between the two. It is known that the number of people that attain a degree in any given major is negatively correlated to the average competence of the group. This has been noted over and over again in the case of engineers students. If the overall number of people that get a degree increases, what does this imply?
