A small experiment. A program that is not aware of the golden ratio is asked to place some objects on a big picture. It does it randomly and then the real person examines it. The program studies their reaction (where they look at, what emotions they experience, etc.). By doing so repeatedly the program will start to find patterns that bring the most emotional response from the person.
I say that any kind of art is a bunch of rules and experiments and the final goal is getting an emotional response. By studying telemetry from BMI it's possible to make a machine that does the same.
