Yes OP but they're harder to get into. I minored in film, just for fun really, but of my classmates 98% of them ended up in industry. Either making commercials, doing set design, editing trailers, or the like. One girl who got a degree in makeup design earns money at ren fairs. One girl makes and sells chainmail accessories online, and one ended up in Hollywood assisting in promotional events for Marvel. So those were a bit non standard but still successful.
Of all the friends I kept in contact with I'm the only one who didn't end up in industry, or in a related field but I was also the one getting a minor. Getting into good art programs is fucking hard as hell, so the filter for success is at the front end but if you get in you'll make the connections you need to find your way in the field.
Also don't listen to dumbasses. With video games, film, television, and the internet, there's more need than ever before for people trained in art.
