What if the universe is really big AND the conditions for life is strict enough that it allows for the same conscience/identity to happens frequently scattered across different planets/inteligent civilizations? Similar to how hash collisions happens.
What if your identity of "self" is actually part of a group that have the same configuration, the same consciousness, and in that group new instances keep pooping up (being born) and going out (dying). Each instance would be "alive" for a very short time relative to the timescale of the universe, so that group of instances popping in and out would look like a christmas tree or something.
Maybe we are an insignificant part of something bigger after all.
