If I have a regular wav file what do I need to do so can I achieve this effect by using digital means exclusively?

What's the mathematical procedure? Is there a plugin or something I can use for reference?

no jk. engies need to stay here. they lurk on like 90% of threads but when an actual practical question comes up in the 1% subset of those threads, they are awesome and we love them. otherwise they should just lurk moar than the moarest of moars, like they just lurk for 1000 years and post 1 reply

You'd have to simulate the behavior of a balloon stretched over a bowl. Which is probably complicated and not worth your time at all. There is nothing exact about anything presented in that video, so there is no "mathematical procedure". It's a toy.

I've used this VST before and it does exactly the same thing programmatically in the vectorscope mode. Its open source
You will need a DAW or some other host to route sound to the VST
