A perfect positive correlation would be 1.0, which would mean that an increase in one thing (A) shows an increase in the other thing (B), and a decrease in A would show a decrease in B.
A correlation of -1.0 is perfectly negative: an increase in A is linked to a decrease in B, and a decrease in A is linked to an increase in B.
A correlation of 0 means that A and B are perfectly uncorrelated. They're completely random from one another. So knowing A doesn't tell you anything about B.
A correlation between 0 and 1, like 0.5, means that A is linked to B, but that there still are a ton of exceptions.
