Why are chained explosives or rainguns not used for rocket launch assist? Certainly the reusability, acceleration and a kilometer or so addition would justify the engineering changes in your payload delivery.

I mean something ground based. The gist of it being, there should be a fixed object which accelerates the rocket, not something attached to the rocket itself. Built in my mind probably on the sci-fi idea of using "gates" or certain travel channels to exit a planet's gravity well.

Rockets often blow up despite best efforts. Now take that rocket and accelerate it at high G using explosives or a light gas gun. You'd need to gain a lot in mass to orbit to justify the huge amount of work required to make it reliable, and at present it is not worth the investment. I wonder though if one day it might be worth it purely for lobbing oxygen, water and fuel into orbit.

Fixed weapons are a dead meme for a reason, they can be out flanked or just bombed out of existance. You would be hard pressed to find any stationary weapon beyond nuclear missile silos, if you can let me know because afaik there are none.
