You should specialize in one field but its good to broaden your knowledge anyway because it's a very interdisciplinary field. So you're in physics? Then I recommend going the programming or engineering route.For programming, I would recommend focusing on Matlab and Python and studying up on computational neuroscience (pic related). Programming doesn't get too crazy from my experience, so you may good with an introductory programming class or scientific programming class, but data structures and algorithms may be helpful too. Jump on programming based math classes, especially stats and calculus.
Engineering is going to be harder to do, but biomedical engineering or neuroengineering should be the classes that you try to take. If you can't take those classes then focus on EE or CE classes that you are allowed to take as a physics undergrad. Classes that focus on circuits, programming, and signals should be your first choices.
You should also join a lab asap. Some labs are open to students that aren't in their field too, so you may not have to be a biology student to work in a neuroscience lab. It's also possible to join labs at other local universities, just ask someone on their team about getting in.

Joining some relevant student clubs/organizations is hit or miss, but you should try your luck and join anyway. Participating in online discussions is hit or miss too but it helps keep you informed about the field in general.
