Your body decays, becomes weak and pale from lack of exposure to light. You move awkwardly and have terrible posture from skimming papers all day (no time to read them academe, but cite! Cite! Someone's going to give you some contrived family of functions with some particular properties that you never even heard of. But what happens then? And this, this is the true total mind-cuckold. You will develop an interest in this sterile, contrived study. How can only cope otherwise? How else can one live to meet arbitrary deadlines, fulfill arbitrary metrics, impress over-specialized colleagues?
[1] There are exceptions, where the brain of the wagecuck is also forced to undergo transformations according to external factors. These get more attention because they are hilarious to observe. But the average waiter doesn't have to dance, sing and be exceedingly agreeable.
