>>11296545Oh lookey here. Isn't it the redditor. Think of how many academics you know that are doing good work and not just studying irrelevant garbage dictated by some advisor and institution that has to meet some bureaucratically imposed metrics?
>T-Terry Tao, grothendieck, ha-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously? This is like choosing to be an entrepreneur because of Bill Gates, Jobs or Jim Simmons. In other words, people that are categorically NOT-YOU, for whatever reasons. This is the hard truth. You, academics, are below wage-cuckolds. Because the average wage-cuckold can end his shift and do and think whatever he wants [1], the means of productions, the matter which he shapes, the tools he uses all stay in the workplace and he may go and enjoy a relaxing drink with friends. YOU on the other hand, YOU are a mental-cuckold, precisely because the means of productions, in this case, are your own brain. The cuckoldry is total. Your body decays, becomes weak and pale from lack of exposure to light. You move awkwardly and have terrible posture from skimming papers all day (no time to read them academe, but cite! Cite! Cite!). And what do you think you're going to study? The Riemmann hypothesis? No, you fucking moron. Someone's going to give you some contrived family of functions with some particular properties that you never even heard of. But what happens then? And this, this is the true total mind-cuckold. You will develop an interest in this sterile, contrived study. How can only cope otherwise? How else can one live to meet arbitrary deadlines, fulfill arbitrary metrics, impress over-specialized colleagues?
[1] There are exceptions, where the brain of the wagecuck is also forced to undergo transformations according to external factors. These get more attention because they are hilarious to observe. But the average waiter doesn't have to dance, sing and be exceedingly agreeable.
