Atheists who think death is just nothingness haven't thought very hard about death.
The reality is that non-existence is impossible. When you sleep or black out, time skips to your next conscious moment. Same thing happens when you die. Could be soon after or trillions of years, it won't be "you" but the first-person experience will always exist.
