>>11288657While chemists work with the molecules themselves (reaction steps, properties of molecules, composition analysis, etc), chemical engineers work with bulk quantities (separating 1 ton of crude oil, producing 1 ton of NaOH). I would say that a chemical engineer's job starts where that of the chemist stops: A chemist will find a new reaction to make product X or analyze a product stream while a chemical engineer will use the results of that previous work to design a new chemical plant or control an existing one.
