I'm teaching undergraduate statistics in the US for the first time. I remember being bored to death by these classes when I was a student. Do you have any advice on how to spice it up for them? I was going to try gambling and probability, but I don't know what zoomers are into.

Don’t know how much control of the course you actually have but project based stuff with actual data and using software/programming is the only way to properly teach stats, mindlessly applying tests and shit to bullshit problems is awful

The problem is that only works with applied courses, which they only let you get into after you actually know what you're doing. In intro courses I don't think that that's an option.

Start off with FBI crime statistics and recommend people to read the bell curve.
Teach people the normal distribution by explaining the IQ between the races

I think if you show how its applied it'll be more interesting.
I got into statistics after watching a documentary about how sports team hire statisticians, and it got me hooked.
Plus, if you show intuitively how formulas are formed and worked, instead of just it being computation and memorisation.

Always use real data from interesting sources as examples
find and use studies that pulled out interesting results and use these as examples of statistical methods
I always found this direct almost tangible connection to real world problem was infinitely more stimulating to fabricated question banks

give them probability theory and bayesian stuff. the introductory frequentist t-test shit is horribly mechanical and boring and it makes statistics completely unintuitive to a beginner.
