It's totally arbitrary and made up. Species don't exist. We just decides we'd try to box up some labels for life on earth, which works sort of okay. Any definition you come up with doesn't work. The most commonly used one, "can make babies that aren't sterile", still doesn't work (ring species).
If its useful, we use it. If its not/used for political motivation (exhibit A and B: this low IQ post), then its not useful to make up something called "species" and try to fit it to our political beliefs, like these two mongoloids here are.
