I've been thinking a lot recently about how to best combat bushfires. Would it be possible to develop some kind of c02 gas shell that could be fired from a gunship? Water bombers are not efficient and limited by weight and land based methods are useless in rough terrain.

Are you literally going to drop (or fire as if they need the momentum) canisters into the fire? Do you know how large a bushfire is and the amount of production that goes into a single canister?

You could drop a fuel air bomb over the area and extinguish all the fires by sucking out all the oxygen.
Even if it doesn't work, Australia still gets bombed so it's a win/win.

It would be possible and also useless. Fight major forest fires by cultivating the forests, map them out thoroughly, clear out deadwood regularly so it doesn't accumulate, and allow small fires to burn themselves off, discourage retarded yuppies from building their houses in fire zones so people aren't killed when a fire does move through the woods.

Yeah its possible in theory. Fire starts with readily available oxygen. If we dilute the area's air composition and reduce the oxygen in the area, that could slow it down. If we for example, drop a bomb that snuffs out oxygen in a large enough area, we can create patches of area where fire would be stopped.
