My point is that the process from going from A -> B, or wave to particle and viceversa isn't thermodynamically perfect and there should be losses beyond what's happening at the detectors because photons are actually behaving either like particles or waves all the time, everywhere, all around us, forever. If there are losses, then there is work being done and we can use it to our advantage, just like explosions are being manipulated to drive internal combustion engines.
