If you're looking for a real answer then that would be the cost of the infrastructure, the energy required to pump it, the build up of salts in the desert ecosystems, and the fact that the magnitude of water migration is so great that arresting it would be a sisyphean task.

I know you are memeing and that’s all well and good but I think you should first consider that water has a quirky trait called thermal expansion. If water is being heated up it will take up more space meaning water would rise to high heaven.

or better yet, nuke the ocean floor and the water can drain into the Earth

really though, if we nuked the sea floor, wouldn't all the holes would make it deeper, able to hold more water?
