If we consider Pluto a proper planet, then we would have to add dozens of other bodies. Ceres, Varuna, Pallas, and tons of TNO's, would all be planets by that definition.
Actually, at that point, how do you even draw the distinction between a "planet," and an "asteroid?" I suppose you could use hydrostatic equilibrium, but that would still leave hundreds of "planets" in the solar system.
My opinion isn't worth anything, but personally the dwarf planet/planet distinction works well for me. I don't see "dwarf planet" as really lesser than regular planets, just a distinction about the orbits of those worlds.
Also, Haumea is fucking rad and we really need to launch a probe at it some day.
