>>11276818It's a trick to get grant money. You can imagine that these PDEs are very general and have a bunch of solutions all depending very subtly on what extra assumptions you make. We could all just get on with it by assuming the universe is a flat 2D plane (it is) but grant money must keep flowing so you publish on what would happen if the universe had a little bump shaped like a cock in its center.
