Light is perturbations (ripples) in an electromagnetic cosmic ocean, called background electromagnetic fields.
Electrons are negatively charged, so when they move they interact with this EMF. When you energise an atom, it's electrons jump to higher valence "electron probability" clouds. This movement between the valence shells causes these ripples, we perceive these ripples as light when they hit the tuned molecules on our retinas. The energy released by this interaction stimulates the optical nerve. We perceive this as light.
