language anon. You can see in the OP's pic exactly what the magnetic field looks like when you have small pieces of iron dust around the magnet. Look at the bar magnet in my pic, and look at OP's pic. The bar magnet in his pic looks just like the bar magnet in my pic. His magnet is rectangular, but looks like a hexagon due to iron dust surrounding the sides.

also this statement is false. That is like saying if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, the sound of a tree is abstract and the tree didn't even make a sound because sound waves are abstract

there is some debate here. Whether the field is actually a physical "thing". But in general when we draw a field we think of it as "what would a test charge do here".

Hard to describe it in physical terms since it's fundamentally just a mathematical way of understanding how different areas of space confer different forces on things

The best way to understand it would be to think of water flowing through a pipe or down a waterfall - at every point in the flow, you can draw an arrow in the direction that water is going. All of those arrows are part of the 'field'.

Only way I can relate them is in the case of a (physics) scalar field, which is a map from the manifold to the (algebraic) field of scalars, which is usually $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$ .
