According to my calculations, a sphere of dense metals like lead or gold about 250m in diameter would locally deform the Earth's gravitational field enough that you'd be able to easily feel the gravitational pull of the metal mass at a 1 meter distance from the surface.
Has anyone else run the numbers on this? It seems like it'd be a neat thing to experience if someone were to put it together, probably would be useful for gravity experiments too.
