How to solve this simple equilibrium problem using matrices?

I want to finally use matrices for something useful and now I'm stuck. I know how to solve it with trig functions or with substitution, but that seems too long.

"Using a matrix" to solve this would just be writing the system of equations--the ones you get from applying Newton's second law, the condition of equilibrium and trigonometry--in the form of an augmented matrix. It's the exact same amount of work, just a slightly different representation.

A matrix is simply a representation of a linear operator. Given that it is linear in all its terms, the system of equations are easier to solve using standard arithmetic as oppose to matrices. I think the only time it might be easier is when you have a coupled system of linear equations where they arent easily decoupled without a matrix

When you get bigger problems, you'll probably be using matrix representations (or the computer at least).
