Why, despite the popularity of the “transporter problem” and other thought experiments about the nature of consciousness and personal identity, is there little to no academic discussion of the possible implications of continuity models of consciousness on the use of general anaesthesia? (at least that I can find). Shouldn’t this be a huge topic of ethical and ontological inquiry? Is it too disconcerting a proposition?
