If you want something more to your liking, try reading through the recently declassified FBI documents on the "Finders" cult. They were active in the 80s and 90s and absolutely shady-government connected. (And it could be that the Yudkowskians or another group have since taken up the mantle, but I've seen no evidence nor suggestion of that.)
