Is our dependence on technology making us less intelligent?
For example there are plenty of people out there who struggle with basic math because they are used to the calculator on their iPhone.

Technology has caused human intelligence to skyrocket.

Flynn effect fundamentally was not real as average genetic potential for intelligence is declining at least since Industrial revolution, if not since Agricultural revolution. Until recently, this decline was more than offset by increases in standard of living, education, nutrition etc. However in developed countries those are already maxed out, and thus the underlying dysgenic trend is becoming visible.

It's making us different, you can be sure humans will be less and less performant when it comes to memory for example.
The problem is that we will rely on this technology and if one day for whatever reason we are forced to live without it, as individuals we will be way less capable of surviving than our ancestors from thousands of years ago.

i can only speak anecdotally but i think it made me less sharp if it isn't just a result of natural aging. i think it's at least in part due to being so reliant on just googling everything. i no longer feel the need to remember or even learn anything properly as i can always look it up so easily. so being lazy i took the path of least resistance and i think over time as i stopped exercising those neural pathways and now it feels much harder to perform cognitive tasks that were previously easy.

no, it has augmented human intelligence which has enabled our performance with cognitive tasks to skyrocket. but it likely hurt our non-augmented intelligence.
