I am not saying people did not use newspapers, but that newspapers were not used as an escape mechanism nearly as often as smart phones are today. whether that be for practical reasons or as a function of the newspapers being less addictive. all of the drones walking, or even driving, with their face buried in their smart phone is a unique phenomenon.

People that are constantly on are pretty rare and most of the time from what I have seen its middle age women. I only have one friend that is on it a bit too much but he doesnt talk much anyways. At the same time I dont see why it bothers you so much what other people do with their life anyways. If a friend or girlfriend is on it too much around you and ignoring you cause of it simply call them out on it or don't hang out with them.
