Does changing direction not being relative imply space-time itself is situated a certain way, e.g. there is an ultimate "east" and "west" direction? If it were relative, there would be no centripetal "force."

Yep, I assume that's the case. Having access to beauty creates comfort and a sense that everything is right with the world, so, they seek to cut out the middle man (figuratively or literally) and simply become beauty. That which is beautiful is that which is good and right.

The other aspect is a buckling under one;s castration anxiety. They view being female as a disarmed easier state, and just do that instead. They resolve the fear of losing masculine power / failure of responsibility, by just leaving the game completely. To nowhere ultimately, because you cannot become the other sex.

In terms of celebrities, I've taken it to be mimicry of the divine androgyne. And a mechanism of control.
