Northern Hans lived in an area with no cover or defense so they were constantly raped by the nomads to the point they became not Han by blood or culture anymore.
In case of southern Hans, they survived but they were not considered as Han people in early Chinese history.
And remaining Chinese culture and philosophy died when Mao ordered his minions to commence cultural revolution, to destroy all cultural assets which were not considered to be friendly with communism.
