>>11266490>feminism>using a word with so many disparate and often contradictory definitions as to be a useless termThe fact that innocuous concepts like “equal pay for equal work (that is in fact equal)” and extreme batshit beliefs (S.C.U.M. Manifesto, e.g. ALL SEX IS RAPE and KILL ALL WHITES) can be used with the same term makes it meaningless.
Am I feminist for thinking that if a woman dies the same acceptable work as a man, she should get the exact same equal pay? I’d say so.
Should we award STEM degrees to women (or anyone really) who just want the paycheck and didn’t spend part of their childhood and adolescence taking apart stuff/finding out how it worked/learning alone just for the fuck of it, while most other kids were partying and having fun, because MUH UNDERREPRESENTATION? Should we do anything and everything to close this gap? Fuck no.
Look, I put my 10,000 hours (the time it takes to be an expert/achieve mastery at anything) before or around age 20, what were YOU doing when I was taking apart old radios/TVs in my dads garage over summer break? If it wasn’t “sacrificing time with friends to discover shit for no reason other than I MUST KNOW” I have no sympathy for you.
I don’t want to hear about “gender roles” either. My parents supported me but many of my friends had their parents begging/threatening/forcing them to go outside instead of doing “nerdy shit.” “Fuck that nerdy computer shit, you should be playing football and getting CTE like a MAN!!” They literally had to defy their parents to uncover the secrets of the discipline they ultimately excelled at.
TL;DR equality in a meritocracy = compensation commensurate with corresponding skill. Full stop no exceptions
