Is intelligent life overrated?

Had I not been born a human, I would have never experienced life, but since I was born a human, now I get to feel a crushing existential dread.

How can I deal with the fact that I will cease to exist one day? The disturbing thought of an eternity that I won't get to experience whether the universe still stands or not, is driving me insane right now.

Generally, you can choose from two theories of mind. One holds that the self is an illusion created by matter, in which case "you" will never cease to exist because all the particles which constituted your being will still exist and fundamentally there's no difference between existing and being alive. The other holds that certain configurations of fundamentally inert matter enabling phenomena like awareness and experience, indicates that consciousness is metaphysical or some kind of panpsychism is true (thus, existing as a conscious aware being is not necessarily contingent on the continued functioning of the body).
There's no real "reason" to fear death. But, I have no reason to assume this isn't our only chance to live as a human being, and to appreciate the universe from a unique vantage, if only for a little while.

I already made peace with me having squandered so many opportunities, I'm getting a notion of what my objective place in modern human society is. If I end up being fucked financially because of bad decisions, I'll have to accept it. It's not too late now to fix myself but trust me, worrying about those things is such a waste for me, you get stressed for things that "matter" only in this day and age, and while you are still alive of course, lol.

I'll just enjoy my family and the things that I truly enjoy, your social status is but a game of chance that depends on so many outside factors that I find it ridiculous and basically impossible to worry about.
