Goddammit I say that the cries of these first time Christians really stunk of a sacrilegious cult -- a whole new beast, in fact. You know why? They have never been "the one" to rule over the hearts of the people. They've only ever been the people who dreamed about how the last followers who came before them could rule over them and make them pious worshippers -- never that they, in turn, could lead their subjects into a virtuous society. Society is always like a chain that makes decisions on its own, with no outside role for anyone to step into. If you doubt it, just look at the structure of every other system you've ever seen. There was always a step from the capitalist to the politician to the patriarch, and an equal step from the patriarch to the king. If you doubt this, try counting the steps from the first monarchical ruler in human history to the last. You won't be able to, because everyone in the world is being marginalized and destroyed at the same time.
