Not just by normies. Try discussing transsexuality on 4chan. You can cite sources all day long but people will believe what their political tribe believes and that's that. I think that this is because the cognitive cost of recognizing that a fundamental religious belief is false is very high so people go all in when it comes to defending those beliefs.

Sorry for being unclear. By religious beliefs I meant beliefs that one holds the way that a deeply religious person holds religious beliefs. In that sense thinking that communism is an economic system with no drawbacks is a religious belief.
