most people only tend to notice someone's smart if they show (specific) knowledge or achievements. things that aren't as clear can be very hard to communicate, and just leaves both sides feeling disconnected.
even more so than most, very intelligent people are diverse in character, personality, temperament, (life) experience, wisdom, appearance, behavior, and yes, even success.
the ones that are conscientious are generally successful, and do well in academia or have high paying jobs.
like everyone else, intelligent people get depressed or mentally ill in some other way if they go long without peers. this often happens because they hardly meet any.
