My actual point here was that when we observe the effects of gravity or the shenanigans of photons, we're seeing the absolute basic raw process of causality. They aren't mired down in the realm of spacetime in the same way we are- from the "perspective" of these phenomena, they are instantaneous executions. We're seeing them "slowed down" and "moving" through space when neither of those concepts actually applies. There is no medium because there is no travel.
