It's a fairly broad subject OP. I'd recommend you read some general articles, but read many specialized topics quickly, I recommend organic retrosynthesis (I don't remember a specific author) to understand the core methodology.

Sadly I lost my copy when my apartment flooded, but yeah the only reason I paid for it was because I got piss drunk and dropped like $300 on this and mcquarrie's quantum chemistry.

If you understand basic organic chemistry, then this is the best book to learn basic synthesis.
