Just started watching pic related and had sort of an interesting thought and wanted to share. I'm only at the Dawn of Man part where an ape learns to use tools.

This focus on such a basic thing, just picking up a stick or bone and using it, transformed everything. Literally transcended basic ape-like intelligence and became what we are today, thanks to tools and the language and technology that followed. That's a very simple way to view it, I know, but broken down to it's essence, that's essentially what happened, through the use of basic tools came civilization as we know it.

Nothing fundamentally groundbreaking in this observation, and I am just a moron, but it made me think that if such basic tools can evolve even mere apes to humans(which I truly think we are an achievement), what would a tool of an even higher order of magnitude in importance and scope, do for our species?

One day it may be possible we discover a tool almost right in front of our eyes, that we were blinded too, that which was too abstract or foreign that we could not see, that only when we reached a certain point through technology or philosophy, or maybe just plain luck, that we would use and it would transform everything, and we'd transcend what we are today. We truly do not give ourselves enough credit, that this is not outside the scope of possibility. Incredible.
