Is it even remotely possible to alter human body to have alien characteristics just by injecting gene manipulating chemicals? I can imagine genetically engineering a baby that way but on a grown man like they do in this movie? Probably pure science fiction.

To answer your question I saw no. You would be two physically developed for the type of changes that they make in the film. I would even argue that a baby would be too old and you would have to design a new species from the fetal stage.
