>>11251777So is everything else you'll choose to do. Whatever you may choose to work on there will be someone else that can replace you and do your portion just as well. I do research on gas powered appliances and had my name attached to a patent within on year of starting. Commercial gas appliances are easily 10-20 years behind consumer grade products because they need to be bulletproof. We transfer over the consumer technology to commercial products and produce prototypes/proof of concept.
You want to know the end result? You get a single digit boost in efficiency but it bloats your production costs which kills the payback period because the efficiency boost is negligible. Part of being bulletproof means that the commercial appliances can run for decades. What business owner in their right mind would want to replace functioning equipment, at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars, for a negligible reduction in utility costs? Let's not forget that I said I do research on gas powered equipment. Gas appliances are planned obsolescence because more and more municipalities are starting to ban/discourage gas use. The work is virtually nothing more than a money laundering scheme where you do pointless research that no one gives a shit about. It just lets utility companies collect funds for efficiency programs from the end users. I'm sure these research programs (which are end user funded, by force) result in some federal/state cutbacks to the utility companies. It's one big scam.
I'd much rather be an accountant than the pointless shit I do now.
