>>11248609Yeah, I played in a band with my high school physics teacher a long time ago and when I went into my senior year he told me to take his class because he thought I'd be as into physics as he was. I was surprised when it turned out none of the interesting conceptual stuff I imagined had much place in it at all and it was entirely just memorizing long tracts of formulae and knowing how to apply them and follow the calculations to get the right answer, which I ended up being really bad at. I wasn't very interested in it and when the exams would come up I'd work through the problems and come up with some way off wrong answer because I ended up applying some rule or some part of some rule the wrong way in a manner that never became apparent to me as obviously different from doing it the right way.
Meanwhile many years later I got into programming and have been a developer ever since, and I routinely hear the same sort of complaints about programming from people who tried getting into it only to realize it wasn't at all what they expected. Not sure what makes these different things click or not click for different people.
