Well there's no reason the ropes have to be the same size as the sides, they could easily be 3/4 as big, or something. In which case the area the goat is confined to is a smaller area in the middle of the shape, but still with that same shape of the boundary.
Or if the goat can travel under the rails, you don't need to do that, you can just extend the length of the sides so the goat can reach everywhere.
But you get the point.
