Philosophy was solved a long time ago by a guy named Wittgenstein, but philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of quantum theory and the philosophy of spacetime are still areas with lots of research and all also concern science itself.

Science does not need literature; literature is for baby boomers who like to spend their whole day smoking weed and speaking about communism and stuff. Or to those bohemian zoomies who just wonder about stupid ideas that do not have any relevance at the end of this era. Who cares about the rights of [insert opressed demographic]? It's not like they are going to make us go to Mars or create new technologies. Who cares about the perspective of some who from 3 centuries ago in regards to religion, science, or life itself? It's not like it fucking matters I still live life however I want. In most sense I could also argue that morals and ethics should not be taken as seriously as many people claim, as they are entirely useless and trample on what should be a straight road of technological and scientific advances.

I don't care about the fiction, the overtought and the essential. I care about what I can touch, what I can see, and what I can understand. That is what science is about, and combining it with literature only yields overall ignorance.

I can appreciate that science is concerned with what immediately is present in a very material sense, but it's clear that there's more to the human experience than that. Science can tell us what and how, but philosophy helps us decide whether to or not and why. Walking carefully is better than running the wrong way, even on what seems like a straight road.

That all said, philosophy of science or mathematics beyond that isn't really useful or important or all that complicated. It deserves pamphlets, not literature. It ranges from an intellectual distraction that at least supports a coherent worldview, to naval gazing and witch doctorism. Society doesn't work without morality, but ethics in science is generally just informed by a wider moral framework, which doesn't need any special adaptation to scientific study.

I don't need to understand anything beyond the most basic moral awareness to know that Unit 731 acted immorally, and their experiments accomplished little that couldn't have been found more decently.

Shinsekai Yori and Steins Gate are my favorite animes. I liked both of them, but I think they are very different.
Shinsekai Yori is originally a book, so you don't find anime stereotypes and not many even in the anime. It has a sad, calm, natural and serious atmosphere, there are no really funny or happy moments. The story has a lot of details, and isn't not too much surnatural, things are well explained or you can guess.
