My brain is probably broken. I truly don't know how I can't comprehrend this problem, but I have question for all of you:
If I have 400 metres of fencing
And I was to create a fence, whose lenght would be twice the width
what would be the square meters of this enclosure

I might be retarded and the realisation is quite a painful one. Please explain this to me.

U have 400 for 2 widths and 2 heights, or 200 to split with 1 width and 1 height, that is 200/3 for the height and 200*2/3=400/3 for the width. You multiply and get 80000/9 for area. Takes 10 seconds op

Of course there is. I can understand more complicated things on paper, but this baffles me more. In mathematics I have never arrived at understanding without understanding each of the steps completely. Not just for that particular problem, but the type of problem in general. With that being able to solve any given problem of that type. However, I failed to see the steps. I did very well in chemistry, biology, basically any subject, including physics even, but mathematics has baffled me more than anything. I need to understand. I must.

the way i think of it is:
L+L+W+W=400
Because each width has to be half of length, both width will add to make length, sort of like there being three lengths (of course there isn't but it seems simpler picturing it that way for me)
L+L+(W+W)=400
L+L+L=400
400÷3=L
L=133?
therefore W=(133?÷2)=66?
area of a rectangle is LxW so
area=(133?x66?)=8888.88 recurring
not sure if this post is bait or not but hope you can understand that.

I finally understood as this.

Sides taken as x and y.

x + x = y

If all together, it is y + y + x + x to make the whole perimeter.

2x + 2y = 400

Simplification follows

x + y = 200

y is really 2 x's

ergo

x + x + x = 200

x = ~66

Now I could write it as x and 2x.
Ergo ~66 x ~ 133 = ~8866,66

It makes perfect sense now. However, there must be a more elegant way to solve this while making it undisputably understood even by the retarded. Can /sci/ come up with such a solution?

what you (actually want): dimensions

if all the sides were equal, it would be n + n + n + n = 400. however, since length is 2x width, it means two of the 4 sides are going to twice as long so it would be 2n + 2n + n + n = 400, or the smaller sides are ~66 units long. knowing smaller are 66, bigger are 133 as they're 2x smaller. 133 * 66 is your answer.

Check my solution above. I tried writing it from beginning, but kept fucking it up. I just don't like writing long lines when it could be simplified, although in an autistic, not very easily understandable way. Basically if one is twice as long, you divide by 3. Then one is 1/3 of 200 and the other is 2/3. 2/3 is twice 1/3 so it respects the rule and the sum is also 3/3*200 which is 200.

Thus we have 25 = a + b + c

If given score, for example, 55 = 4a - 2b - c

25 - b - c = a

A is straight-forward; it is merely a question of cumputing a sum.

B is impossible, unless you have some supplementary equations. You will have to solve for 3 unknowns, which requires at least 3 equations.

the situation youre looking at is called a system of equations; a set of multiple equations that "interact" or hold information about eachother. your brain isnt broken, you just need to zap together perimeter and area equations

Perim=2Len+2wid
Ar=Len*Wid

with relationships between length and width (len=2w) you can remove the Wid variable from both equations (since theyre based on the same info). then based on Perim, you can solve for Len, then plug that info into Ar equation
