It works the same way as a worm brain works.
But the bigger point is eukaryotic multicellularity is the "upscaling" of a single cell. And brain probably corresponds to the nucleus.

Almost immediately after UBI is passed. If I was guanteed food & heat, etc... no matter what I did, I would sit in a room for months and diagram the entire brain at a first principles level. Something I fantasize about doing often.

If a memory is effectively a string of neurons that fire easily as a successive combination, then how many neurons does it take to encode a piece of basic information? Take the spelling of a person's name. In a computer system we can easily put a figure to a memory amount. How about with a fleshy system?
