Simon Fraser University; Mathematical Physics; undergrad. This uni is full of brainlets (99% of arts, gender studies, etc.) and I would hope they would just flunk half the school to make it decently intelligent

CS major and math minor but thinking about switching those two. Realizing slowly how gay CS is and how based math is, I hear it helps to have coding experience as a math major so its a possibility. Undergraduate here. Lots of possibilities in Portland for CS too.

Living expenses aren’t an issue, but the rent is a huge problem. I work as as a TA and spend most of my money to live as close to the uni as possible.
Most of my friends live 30-40 mins away.
AFAIK, there’s only one student dorm which is right next to the uni, but I didn’t bother applying because there’s probably a huge waiting list.

I would say yes due to prestige and higher academic requirements. I had offers from both and rejected UCL. Thats what most ppl do while I never saw someone rejecting Imperial for UCL. While both are ranked top 10 in the world, UCL is only there due to humanities. In science and engineering, they r like top 50

I have no money and every other university just simply isnt worth the money or the student debt. Also, I was accepted into UBC but Id rather work a mcdonalds job than commute for 3 hours a day and have to fight just to get on the buses.

I'm finishing my MS in pure math at CSULB, taking quals in real analysis and point set topology.

I'm taking random matrix theory, possibly fourier analysis, and doing independent work in low dimensional Topology. I'll also be doing some work with a professor at a nearby University in Harmonic Analysis.

Right now I'm just plowing through analysis problems as fast as I can to prepare for the quals. And to not disappoint nearby professor

UCLA is good, but it is definitely not Berkeley or Michigan, specially at the graduate level. At the graduate level, they have far inferior rankings.
It is currently ranked #1 in USWNR, but this is the same ranking that has UF ahead of UT Austin.

For all the /puremath/ fags at master's or PhD, which area are you studying?
I'll start: differential geometry, algebraic topology. I'm in my master's. next period ,I'm either taking a course called "Hamiltonian Manifolds and Geometric Quantization" and "Algebraic Topology of Manifolds II" (homology with local coefficients, spectral sequences, characteristic classes and cohomology of classifying spaces (I actually don't know what the last thing is) and bordisms) OR I'm taking "Symmetric Spaces" and "Rigidity in Riemannian Geometry" or something like that.

Currently in the process of enrolling for university. What should I do? I don't enjoy anything.
Was thinking of doing pharmacy, seems pretty easy money.
There's no job that I think will satisfy me.
I want to do two majors ideally.

Also would like to dip my toes in something new like comp sci.

I didnt try in school, did physics, Chem, the lowest qualifying maths, religion, aviation, information technology and English. I did fine in all of them, I'm a one standard deviation student if I don't study, 0 standard without studying in Chem/Physics.

I'm not gonna make a promise that I'll try now, but I'm more determined to succeed than ever before.
